Why Jew Brew?
This year, our Jewish Arts Festival celebrates the Jewish roots of Octoberfests, craft brewing, and fermentation in the culinary arts. Contemporary American society is in the throes of an ancient food-ways revival, and those food ways originated as Jewish technologies of survival. Fermentation is a method of preservation, harnessing natural yeast in the air to convert food and drink into a less-perishable state. Beer, wine, vinegar, pickles, sourdough breads, krauts, and more are all Jewish food staples that date back to early biblical times.
Join us in honoring this culinary moment by learning about the contributions of Jewish innovation to the culinary arts, then and now.
